Jayne Murray, a public artist

Together with Emma Larkinson – as ‘Prospectors’ we led a team of practitioners to introduce awe & wonder into the outdoor environment at the school.

Following a first phase of site analysis conducted with pupils we arrived at four areas of interest; cocooning the space, stimulating new activities, testing boundaries, and adding new elements. Each area was tested out through workshops with staff and pupils, and a landscape/design plan drawn up in response.

Although the plan is dedicated mainly to the outdoors, it works with and crosses into the school building when it supports learning outside. This was the first ‘Learnscape’ project, a concept initiated by Prospectors; where the school grounds become a learning tool as much used as a whiteboard.
